It’s sad when people you know

Turn into people you once knew.

You’re in denial-

You think the situation will just work itself out

But you’re wrong,

Because it never does.

It starts when you don’t see them anymore.

Now, it’s as if you two are total strangers.

Seeming like you two never knew each other.

It goes from seeing that special person everyday,

To a few times a week,

Then to a couple of times a month,

To never seeing them at all.

It seems you’re not even on the same chapter as that person anymore,

Let alone the same page.

It happens so quickly- you drift away so fast.

It’s a sad thing when people you were once so close with,

Now have trouble remembering your name.

When the occasion comes, and you get to speak with them again,

It’s very awkward- as if it were the first time meeting.

You soon realize there’s no longer anything to talk about,

Since you’ve both moved on in your lives.

You don’t share the common interests that you once shared anymore.

You start to question how the hell you two were so close at one time.

It seemed at first you two shared a brain,

Now it’s like you’re two completely different people.

Whenever you see that person-

There’s no more inside jokes, no more laughing, no, none of that.

All you say is a simple, “Hello. How are you?”

And the conversation is done; over.

At one time, you could talk for hours,

Now you have trouble keeping up a five minute conversation.

You go back to your own lives, unchanged, and all is done with.

In private, you reminisce to yourself about old memories,

Wondering how two people could go from being such great friends

To complete and utter strangers.

You see that person from a distance-

They’re so happy. Laughing, smiling, as though nothing is bothering them.

Secretly, you watch. You watch them, and you realize you miss them so much.

You miss their friendship, their love or whatever it was that the two of you shared.

But you would never tell them that-

Then it would appear as though you’re weak and needy;

And you couldn’t have that.

So, you go day by day agonizing about how much you miss that person being in your life.

It’s sad when people walk out of your life so quickly,

You hardly have time to realize it- To even notice their absence.

It’s sad when people you know

Become the ones you knew.

When the two of you are now so different-

You hardly recognize each other anymore.

I really like your use of words, layering, and depth. If you've never considered writing professionally, I'd give it some serious thought. (How old are you? You can send me an email on that if you'd like! *wink*)

..well you could start making books and putting all of your poems in it..then you'll have something to look back at you know..

and btw it was a dope *** poem
I like it, you word the feelings well and give examples people can understand and relate too. It's a bit non-poemish though, just in that it seems more like someone just talking instead of reciting something from their heart. I still like it : )
